Several Opposition Leaders also responded to the tweet by retweeting it.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared the PM's tweet and said, "Give up hatred, not social media accounts."

Congress MP Sashi Kumar said, "The PM's abrupt announcement has led many to worry whether it's a prelude to banning these services throughout the country too. As Prime Minister Modi knows well, social media can also be a force for good & for positive & useful messaging. It doesn't have to be about spreading hate."

Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala requested Modi with his tweet, "Respected Modi ji,

Earnestly wish you would give this advise to the concerted army of trolls, who abuse-intimidate-badger-threaten others every second in you name!

Sincere Regards,
Citizens of India."

Alka Lamba from Congress tweeted that its a "big relief". She also said, "Foreign leaders will just miss your congratulatory messages in different languages."

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram said that it is appreciated and tweeted, "The toxicity of this medium is a bane."

Few BJP leaders came in support for the PM's tweet, Tripura Chief Minister and BJP leader Biplab Deb responding to Rahul Gandhi's tweet said, "So that's the reason Sonia Gandhi doesn't have any Social Media account?"

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' wife supported the tweet said that she will "follow the path" of PM Modi.

The Prime Minister did not leave any clue on why he wants to quit social media. He posted the same on his Instagram and Facebook profiles as well. Within minutes, hashtag #NoSir started trending on Twitter with netizens requesting the PM not to leave social media.
