Corona kills 242 in a single day, death toll crosses 1,350
Deadly corona has killed more than 240 people in a single day. This marks the deadliest day of the outbreak in the Chinese province of Hubei.
There have been new 14,840 confirmed cases who were diagnosed with the virus. The Chinese government uses a new technique to diagnose the virus so there is an increase in the confirmed cases.
The present death toll is above 1350 but the number of people who are diagnosed with the virus is stabilizing. There has been a total of 60,000 cases in total.
The Communist Party in China has replaced Jiang Chaoliang who is the party secretary. He has been replaced by Shanghai party chief, Ying Yong. The Chinese government has removed several health officials from their job since the outbreak.
The WHO has said that it is too early to predict the end of the epidemic. The WHO's director-general has warned that this virus could go in any direction.
He said, "It's way too early to try to predict the beginning, the middle or the end of this epidemic right now." Chinese epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan said the epidemic will go to peak in China this month before subsiding.
WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan has said that "I think we will find a vaccine. It will take some time. A vaccine cannot be made overnight."
