On Thursday, Indian origin British MP Rishi Sunak became the UK's new finance minister replacing former Finance Minister Sajid Javid. Mr. Rishi Sunak is married to the daughter of Infosys co-founder and billionaire Narayana Murthy.
Mr. Rishi took to twitter saying that he is honored to be appointed as the Chancellor Of the Exchequer in the Boris Johnson cabinet.
Mr. Sunak has been appointed as the second most powerful minister in the British Government. Prime Minister Johnson reshuffled his cabinet since Pakistani-origin Sajid Javid resigned unexpectedly.
In his tweet, Runak said, "I am honored to be appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer. My predecessor and good friend Saj did a fantastic job in his time at the Treasury. He was a pleasure to work with and I hope to be able to build on his great work going forward."
It is said that Mr. Sunak is believed to be a close ally of British Prime Minister Johnson. Reports say, Mr. Javid, the former finance minister had clashes with Johnson's adviser, Dominic Cummings. Cummings is a political disruptor who is mistrusted by many lawmakers and officials.
Former Brexit Minister, David Jones said that the new Finance Minister is a very bright and excellent choice. He also said that Mr. Sunak's appointment would pave way for more expansionary budget next month.
Now the British cabinet has three Indian Origin MPs. Alok Sharma on Thursday was appointed as the secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy. Boris Johnson had appointed Priti Patel as the new Home Secretary last year.
