At least 38 people have died in the violence in the northeast of Delhi. More than 300 people are injured. At this juncture, Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with senior officials of Delhi Police to investigate the current situation in Delhi. Following this, the Home Ministry issued a statement saying the situation is currently improving in Delhi. People are banned to move out in groups.
The ban is only for 10 hours today, from 4 am to 10 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm. In the last 36 hours, there have been no major incidents of violence. The clash between CAA supporters and protesters in the north-eastern part of Delhi escalated into a violent outburst. Vehicles, shops, and buildings were set on fire by the goons. The Home Ministry said, "Do not believe in rumors. Do not fall prey to the evil groups interested in inciting communal tension."
The East Delhi Municipality is cleaning up the rubbish and repairing damaged public property in "riot-prone areas," the Home Ministry said in a statement. Similarly, the Delhi Police has reportedly started peace talks to promote harmony between the two communities. The Home Ministry said 330 meetings have been organized so far and such peacekeeping meetings will continue until the situation comes back to normal.
Those attending these peace meetings also belong to political parties including BJP, AAP, and Congress. The Home Ministry said that 48 cases have been registered so far and more cases will be filed "in due time." Similarly, police said in a recent report that about 514 people have been detained for interrogation. As the trial progresses, it is believed that more cases will be filed.
The Delhi Police said it has formed two special investigative teams to investigate. Around 7000 Central paramilitary personnel have been stationed in Northeast Delhi since February 24. According to the Home Ministry, 112 senior police officers and 200 female police officers are currently on duty.
The Delhi Police has set up helpline numbers 22829334 and 22829335 to immediately report complaints. Two security personnel were killed in the violence. Also, 70 people were injured. Subsequently, steps have been taken to ensure that the injured receive adequate medical care.
