A senior US official has said that during his visit to India, US President Donald Trump will be discussing the issues relating to the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and the National Registrar of Citizens (NRC) with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The official said, "President Trump will talk about our shared tradition of democracy and religious freedom, both, in his public remarks and certainly in private. He will raise these issues, particularly the religious freedom issue that's very important for this (Trump) administration. We have our shared commitment to upholding our universal values, the rule of law."
He also said that the US has great respect and concern for Indian tradition and Democracy and will continue to support them.
The Indian States like Kerala, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Punjab are refusing to implement NRC and CAA since CAA promises citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian which is facing off opposition across the country.
President Trump is visiting India on a 2-day visit on February 24. He is expected to attend the event at the largest Cricket Stadium, Motera Stadium at Ahmedabad. This event has been named as 'Namaste Trump' which is similar to the 'Howdy Modi' function that happened in Houston last year for Modi by Trump.
Trump and US first lady Melania Trump will have a widespread schedule starting from February 25. They will be visiting Tajmahal, and also a Delhi government school on their trip.
