The scientists have proved that the deadly corona is mutated into two strains. Among the two one strain is very aggressive and contagious than the other. The COVID-19 virus which has killed more than 3,100 people around the world has affected 29 people in India. The scientists say that they find it harder to contain the spread of the virus.
The researchers at Peking university's school of life Science and Institute Pasteur of Shanghai has identified that the virus has mutated into two types known as the 'L' and 'S'. The coronavirus which belongs to the large family of RNA viruses often mutates when they replicate quickly. The researchers have found that the new 'L-type' spreads very quickly and acts aggressively when compared to the 'S - type'. It is found that the L type virus has infected 70% of people all over the world since it can spread quickly. The researchers also said that few patients can get infected by both the strains of the virus.
The team led by Professor Jian Lu and Dr. Jie Cui in their research paper said that the L type was more common at the beginning of the spread during the outbreak in Wuhan. The Research paper said, "Whereas the L type was more prevalent in the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan, the frequency of the L type decreased after early January 2020. Human intervention may have placed more severe selective pressure on the L type, which might be more aggressive and spread more quickly."
The study also said that the new findings are preliminary tests and are examined only from the strains from China. They said that further tests have to be done with the strains from other countries to confirm whether the same type of virus is being spread across the world.
Scientists from different parts of the world are working hard to find a vaccine for the virus since there is no cure found yet to treat the outbreak. Worldwide, the number of victims of the corona virus has touched one million, and in many countries, the number of victims is increasing day by day.
The number of casualties in China, where the corona started spreading, has exceeded 3,000. Today, 135 people have been infected, and the number has risen to 80,409.
The death toll in South Korea has risen to 35 which is highest after China. Today, 145 people have been infected, and the number of victims has crossed 6,000. The South Korean government has allocated an additional Rs 71,000 crore for the prevention and protection of the virus. Schools across the country are closed for 3 weeks.
